Originally from Shepparton, Victoria, Craig is a self-taught designer and illustrator who started his own design business in Melbourne at 18 years of age. During that time he was appointed as a design consultant to The Reserve Bank of Australia.
His designs and illustrations have graced banknotes throughout the world, including the Australian bicentenary ten-dollar note. His work appears on the original Australian $100 note, Papua New Guinea Kina, Cook Island Dollars and English Pound traveller's cheques. Craig was also involved in the design and illustration of many countries security documents such as Passports, Bonds and Traveller's Cheques.
At the age of 23 he designed the entire series of the Cook Island banknotes and it is believed that he was the world's youngest designer to design a country's complete currency. In 1991, Craig moved to Sydney where his illustrations were regularly commissioned by agencies and designers both in Australia and around the world.
He is now widely known as Australia's only freelance currency designer. Craig has also designed and illustrated five stamps for Australia Post. Craig has been Creative Director of his own agency, McGill Design Group, for over twenty-three years.
Having grown up with a succession of beagles, Craig is now owned by three Siberian Huskies.

We love them, you love them and now the world loves the Wine Dogs books by Craig McGill and Susan Elliott. As we wait for Wine Dogs Australia 2 book due out in mid 2009, the second US Edition has hit the stores, this time containing more than 450 photos of pooches across America such as The Scheming Beagle and Robert Parker's latest bulldog, Buddy. Unfortunately the flatulent George of Mondovino fame has passed away. And next month, the first European tail-wagging tome showcasing Italian dogs, including the much-loved companions of winemaking legends such as the Frescobaldis and the Antinoris, will be available. While closer to home, NZ photographer Kevin Judd has captured Kiwi canines for the first book from across the Tasman. Watch this space for the South African, French and South American versions. Visit winedogs.com for more details. --Judy Sarris, Gourmet Traveller WINE
I wonder what goes through his mind, when he sees us peeing in his water bowl, muses Penny Ward Moser, in this light-hearted guide to the dogs of New Zealand wineries. Kevin Judd, who recently resigned as managing director of Cloudy Bay, has assembled more than 150 photographs of the purebreds and mutts that inhabit our wine cellars. They're a lovable lot, and you can learn all about their pet hates, favourite toys and naughtiest deeds. Two are called Cooper. --Michael Cooper, Listener New Zealand
