After hunting all night, Harold the Owl lands on a branch ready for a long snooze. But just as he starts to fall asleep, the birds begin chirping. And then the gardener starts his leaf blower. Harold doesn’t want to stay awake all day. He needs to sleep, so he’ll be ready for nighttime... Lesley Leadbetter strongly supports the preservation of wildlife, and has written this story to help children learn to love and appreciate our native birds.

Lesley was born at Charleville, Queensland and raised on a sheep and cattle property, Bundulla , which is situated between Charleville and Mitchell, with a younger sister and older brother. She lives on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and has one son. Her early schooling was by correspondence before she spent four years boarding at St.Hildas, Southport.
She has worked as a Registered Nurse/Midwife and lived a number of years in the bush and in the city. Her children s stories are based on these experiences and to reflect her love of children and animals.
She has fond memories of holidaying on the Gold Coast, where she would spend hours watching Walt Disney animated films with her Dad. Because her family worked with animals they could relate to the cartoon characters and their antics, and appreciate the humour in the cartoons. Lesley believes every animal has its own personality, and learning to deal with them is an acquired skill. The same applies to children!
Lesley hopes to teach her readers life lessons through rhyme and pictures and helping them having fun at the same time.
