Everyone loves a good thrill ride. Students will enter the ever-exciting world of theme parks as they research and design one of their own, based on cultures and sites from all around the world. 10-12 week unit.
As the students go through the process of researching their themes and translating the essence of the cultures of their global picks into a compact experience, they develop a much deeper understanding of what makes us different and what makes us the same.
In the design process, students will give their math skills a good brush up as they design-to-scale a model to present to the Tourism Board.
This unit brings in aspects of math, visual arts, geography, social studies, strategic planning, strong collaboration skills, critical thinking and problem-solving elements throughout the unit.
Each unit is designed to bring the community into the classroom and the classroom into the community in a variety of ways. This creates a first-step into community involvement that will hopefully follow the students throughout their lifetimes; and gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment, and the knowledge that they can make a difference.
Each unit utilizes aspects of language arts, visual arts, research projects, and technology integration, as well as other disciplines such as geography, history, math, health, and science. Students work independently as well as in collaboration with others. Every lesson focuses on The Habits of the Mind and Critical Thinking Exercises.
The final presentation is the ultimate prize as the students will submit their final projects to members of the community. Community members can be anyone from local business owners (who usually love to participate), school district members, or even the Mayor of your town. You can make the project as small or large as you want.
The units are completely Teacher Friendly offering all primary resources with allowances for resources of your own. Instructional practices and the theories behind the practices are included as well. Finally, the unit includes simple, yet effective rubrics for the teacher to easily assess the students learning. All units are surprisingly adaptable to meet the needs of your individual classroom, and align with the Common Core Standards. This teaching unit is a PDF file delivered via CD-ROM.

GoTeachGo is the joint venture of two sisters: Jacquelyn Klein and Kate Parker. In her school district, Jacquelyn has been working for the last few years with the school superintendents, principles, and teachers to bring in the shift to PBL, with the goal to bring Project Based Learning to every classroom within the next 5 years.
Along the way Jacquelyn realized that many teachers were ready and willing to make the change, but had no support system in place to aid with instructional strategies and assessment. Thus, the idea of creating a line of instructional aids came to the forefront, in the form of GoTeachGo.
Jacquelyn & Kate are passionate about education, learning, children and good instructional practices that promote 21st Century skills. Although we have different degrees, our styles and education complement our focus and drive. We are in a global shift in all sectors of life. If we want our students to be successful in life we must give them the tools they need, critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, and communication; Project Based Learning. GoTeachGo.com
