A children's fantasy story by Gareth Knight that will also be enjoyed by grown ups. Richard and Rebecca meet the Joker of their granny's magic pack of cards and, assisted by his dog, meet many of his friends on a hair raising cycle of adventures that takes them to many strange worlds such as the Mountains of the Stars beyond the Gates of Time and thence to the Wondrous Island at the Heart of the Rainbow. Any correspondence with the figures they meet and the pictures in the Tarot pack are entirely coincidental – but we all know what coincidences are – and they receive much fascinating instruction on this and that by characters as diverse as the Star Maiden and the Great Emperor, having evaded such dangers as the Dark Tower and the Desert Reapers. All ends happily with their triumphant return to Myrtle Cottage having made some acquaintance with their True Names and Essential Goodnesses.
