Based on sound developmentally appropriate theory, this how-to book on classroom management techniques enables beginning and experienced teachers alike to run effective, successful programs.
New topics include working with ESL learners, helping children deal with traumatic life events, and using computers in the classroom.

Steffan Saifer has been a preschool teacher for over 15 years, the director of several early childhood programs, and a trainer for over 20 years. He currently works as an Early Childhood Education Specialist with the Early Childhood Training Center at Portland State University, where he conducts research and trains staff for Head Start and other programs nationwide. He is also a doctoral candidate.
I was skeptical of the title of this book, but after reviewing the manuscript I must say that the title is "right on." Steffen has done a magnificent job of dealing with most of the problems that one would encounter working in an early childhood program. He's attuned to the diversity of programs and needs and still manages to cover the bases. -- David Wright, Ed.D., Assoc. Professor, Western Oregon State College
This book addresses all the questions and concerns that are left out in teacher training, but are some of the most problematic ones of all. I admire the straight-forward discussion of sensitive topics and the sound suggestions that are given. This is a book that should be given to all early childhood teachers upon graduation or landing their first job. -- Kathy Bobula, Chairperson, ECD, Clark College
This book can be enormously helpful to teachers at every level, be they Head Start teachers, public school teachers, home care providers, or day care and nursery school teachers....In addition, the book is extremely well organized so that teachers can look up a particular problem rather than needing to read endlessly before finding help for one's particular problem. This in an innovative way of organizing child development material. -- Dorothy Anker, Ph.D., Faculty, Retired, Erikson Institute
This one volume guide is both comprehensive and up to date. The information is accurate, helpful, and easy to access. It will rule the early childhood educator's reference shelf in dog-eared splendor. -- Alan S. Berlin, Director, Souther Oregon Head Start
