Perhaps nowhere in the world is God’s creativity and love more apparent than in the Amazon. Not only do the stars and moon speak of His glory, but so too the rivers and rainforest, and a host of creatures that dazzle the senses. This book might have been pure photography, pure poetry, or pure prose. But none of those elements alone could describe the beauty and variety of our experiences here. Thus Moonlight on the Amazon is a combination of literary forms and images that work together, including true-life stories that will challenge and inspire you, witty poems and salty letters, cultural vignettes, and a generous sprinkling of jokes to make you smile. The text is illustrated with more than 50 full-color photos that reflect the talents of seven photographers. These images portray the warmth of the Brazilian people, God’s beautiful hand at work in their midst, and the extraordinary natural beauty of the Amazon rainforest.

Don Best worked as a missionary-writer with Project Amazon from 2002 to 2012. He and his wife, Betty, lived at the mission's main base in Santarém, Brazil, working in communications and hosting the mission guesthouse.
Don and Betty's love for one another -- and also for Brazil -- date all the way back to 1974, when they met working at a newspaper in Rio de Janeiro. They have two grown sons - Paul and Jonathan - who live in New Hampshire and Washington, respectively.
Don is a native Oklahoman with a degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma. Prior to joining the mission he worked as a senior editor at various publications, specializing in energy and construction technology. He has authored five books and numerous newspaper and magazine articles spanning a 35-year career in journalism.
Two of Don's books were inspired by his experiences living and working in the Brazilian Amazon. The first -- Moonlight on the Amazon -- is a collection of true stories, essays and humor illustrated with dozens of beautiful photographs. The second book, soon to be released, is a novel titled River Wild, River Free.
Don and Betty make their home near Charleston, South Carolina.
