Now for contemporary journalists, the easy-to-use A-Z style guide provides practical, authoritative guidelines on spelling, capitalization, grammar, punctuation and usage, as well as other vital data that reporters and editors need in a hurry, and that journalism students can master at leisure. In addition, this invaluable resource includes professional advice by UPI’s award-winning reporters and editors on "Writing for Print," "Writing for Broadcast," "Covering the Courts," "Understanding Libel Law," "Wire Style for Print and Broadcast," "News Pictures," and "Writing on War" (including recent war coverage). About the Author:

United Press International has pioneered many areas of worldwide news coverage and distribution, striving since 1907 to provide news coverage that is fast, accurate, fair and balanced. UP was the first service to emphasize the by-line of the reporter writing the dispatch. It introduced big-name interviews and developed the feature story as an important part of the daily news report. In 1935, UP also became the first news service to supply news to broadcasters. The International News Service, founded in 1909 by media mogul William Randolph Hearst, merged with United Press in 1958. That year UPI began the first wire service radio network, providing radio stations with voice reports from correspondents all over the globe. News people who have worked for UPI are nicknamed Unipressers, and they are legendary in the news industry for their resourcefulness and style. Some famous Unipressers include Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Merriman Smith, Howard K. Smith, Eric Sevareid, Harrison Salisbury, Westbrook Pegler, Oscar Fraley, Raymond Clapper, William Shirer, Charles Collingwood and Helen Thomas. Today, UPI continues the wire service tradition of strong unbiased coverage of major breaking news, along with depth coverage, analysis and commentary to provide insight into the world's most pressing issues.
