"Relax," everyone keeps telling Greg. But his girlfriend has just died of an overdose, and she may have been murdered. Just three days before, she had convinced him to take a Greyhound out to this Somewhereville in the wild West to settle the estate of her parents, who themselves died in a questionable car wreck. Now alone, he finds their house filled with enough alcohol and drugs to fund a small war--not to mention the guns and ammunition to fight it. Relax? Just when half a case of beer convinces Greg this might be possible, someone takes a shot at him. . . .

About the Author:
Scott Morgan was born and raised in North Carolina, in the small town of West End. He spent a few years in the army national guard as a combat medic and now lives outside Chapel Hill with his wife, Shannon. Scott plays bass guitar and sings in a band called Memphis, which plays many of his original songs. This is Scott's first novel, though he has written several more.
From Booklist:
Greg Carter, the rootin', tootin'cowboy at the center of this psychedelic western, has a soft spot for strippers, has never encountered a drug he wouldn't take, and is haunted by his mother's words: "Greg, how do you always get yourself into so much trouble?" His latest trouble starts with a heroin-addicted exotic dancer named Cindy whose parents have perished in a mysterious car accident. After taking Greg to her hometown, Paradise, to help sort out her estate, she promptly overdoses. Soon Greg finds himself stranded in a replica of an Old West town that sponsors a weeklong event catering to role-playing gamblers, rustlers, and gunslingers, all dressed in western attire. Greg begins winning big at poker, sipping copious amounts of whiskey, and wearing a pair of Colt revolvers. Fisticuffs, gunfights, and even stranger goings-on ensue. First-novelist Morgan mostly uses his convoluted plot as a showcase for macho posturing and trippy dialogue, all of which is vastly entertaining. His bent, laconic cowboy, given to muttering darkly comic asides, may remind readers of the late, great Hunter Thompson. Joanne Wilkinson
