Welcome to the magical land where pizzas, french fries, and ketchup sprout from the school lunch garden. The definitions of everyday foods like vegetable, fruits, and whole grains create utter confusion and bickering among our elected leaders. This has culminated in the creation of ridiculous fabricated rules meant to quell food industry leaders while disregarding the nutritional needs of American school children. What's next? Marshmallows becoming a fruit? As a mom and serious foodie, the day I heard that Congress (re)approved pizza counting as a vegetable in school lunch programs, I literally yelled WHAT?! even though no one was in the room to hear me. That's how upset and amazed I was, and I wrote this book to find out how this could be allowed to happen.
