When the 96 Mustang came out with the 4.6-liter V-8, some performance enthusiasts were scared away by its technology. But those days are long gone. Ford added horsepower and torque to its 2- and 4-valve V-8s over the years, and the number and quality of available aftermarket performance parts has exploded.
Ford took things to the next level with the new 3-valve Mustang GT engine, the 5.4-liter GT and the Shelby GT500, adding even more high-performance options.

Sean Hyland has raced, wrenched, and developed Mustangs for more than half of his 30 years in motorsport. Having cut his teeth in autocross and pro rally competition in the early 1980s, he moved on to be a successful driver and team owner in the Firehawk Endurance road race series in the 1990s.
As Sean became immersed in developing the 4.6L engine in the mid 1990s, time commitments forced his own motorsport adventures to take a back seat to his business, Sean Hyland Motorsport.
Sean is still at the forefront of 4.6L Modular V-8 development today, and he's justifiably proud of his achievements, most notably the 4.6L and 5.4L engine block that he designed for high-performance applications. Today, Sean is involved with making Mustangs go faster every day, and he's also the resident racing expert on Speed Channel's Sports Car Revolution. Sean lives with his wife and two girls in Ontario.
