Synopsis

The venerable Alpine Clubs of the U.S. and Canada work together to compile rock and alpine climbing accidents from each year in the hope that mountaineers will learn from them and recreate more safely as a result.
This is the sixty-third year of publication for the annual Accidents in North American Mountaineering, and its arrival in late summer is eagerly awaited by climbers. This annual handbook offers detailed reports on climbing accidents that occurred in the United States and Canada in 2009. Produced jointly by the Safety Committees of the American Alpine Club and the Alpine Club of Canada, Accidents in North American Mountaineering details what happened and analyzes what went wrong in each situation to give mountaineers the opportunity to learn from others mistakes.
