About the Author:
Roger S. Blumenthal, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.H.A., F.C.C.P., received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College and did his Internal Medicine and Cardiology fellowship training at Johns Hopkins, where he then joined the medical school faculty. He is currently Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Director of the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Preventive Cardiology Center. Dr. Blumenthal's clinical and research interests include noninvasive detection of coronary atherosclerosis and the development of new strategies for the optimal management of cardiovascular disease risk factors. He has written numerous articles and editorials dealing with coronary heart disease and the prevention and management of atherosclerosis. He is also on the editorial board of several professional journals, including Preventive Cardiology, Cardiology Review, Journal of Women's Health, and Today in Cardiology, and is the medical editor of The Johns Hopkins Heart Bulletin. Dr. Blumenthal is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Heart Association's Epidemiology and Prevention Council. He is on the steering committee of the Emerging Science of Lipid Management (ESLM) Council and the Coalition for the Advancement of Cardiovascular Health (COACH). He is also an official national spokesperson for the American Heart Association (AHA) and the chairman of the American College of Cardiology Committee on Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease. Simeon Margolis, M.D., Ph.D., received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and performed his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is currently Professor of Medicine and Biological Chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and medical editor of The Johns Hopkins Medical Letter: Health After 50.
