What chronicle of a champion won't reveal a narrative that explains his past and guides his future? The same is true of those who, through the help of God, come to see the truth and embrace it as their own. For Catholic Answers Director of Apologetics Tim Staples, that story begins in the back seat of a police car as a rowdy teenager growing up with his equally rowdy brothers. Let me put it this way, Tim says, the police officers in Fairfax County, Virginia, knew all of us on a first-name basis. Fortunately, the story doesn t end there. Striving to straighten out his life, Tim returned to his Protestant roots, and seeking greater discipline in his life he eventually joined the U.S. Marine Corps. And that, Tim says, is when things really started getting interesting in his life. You see, there was this fellow Marine who Tim a true-blue Protestant at the time challenged to defend his faith. This Marine was a Catholic. His name was Matt Dula. And Corporal Matt Dula was unlike any Catholic Tim had ever met. I had a Catholic ready, willing, and able to share his faith with me, Tim recalls, and he, shall we say, rocked my world. The power of story is its ability to put flesh and blood, a face and a personality, to the truth. No wonder God uses story to reveal himself. And now, for those already familiar with Tim Staples work as a world-renowned author, speaker and thinker on the Catholic faith, his story is available in a new Catholic Answers DVD Jimmy Swaggart Made Me Catholic. As the title might suggest, it s a story that only Tim Staples could tell. With the same down-to-earth mixture of self-effacing humor and passionate love for his hard-won and newfound Catholic faith, Tim offers an hour's worth of heartwarming stories and thought-provoking insights into the Church, Scripture, and what it means to discover, embrace, and live out the Catholic faith first handed down from Christ to the apostles. Perfect for anyone looking to bring faith alive for family, friends, or co-workers exploring the Catholic faith, Jimmy Swaggart Made Me Catholic shows how a die-hard Protestant came to realize that the Protestant faith which he sought to defend has no real response to the truths espoused by the Catholic Church. In fact, at Jimmy Swaggart Bible College (now World Evangelism Bible College) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Tim spent some time regrouping his forces after meeting Matt Dula, the faculty and Tim's fellow students could not offer anything but half-truths, myths, and out-and-out lies about the Catholic Church as a defense of their own position. If you or someone you know has bought into such distortions of the Catholic Church, consider owning a copy of Jimmy Swaggart Made Me Catholic.

Tim Staples is Director of Apologetics and Evangelization at Catholic Answers, but he was not always Catholic. Tim was raised a Southern Baptist. Although he fell away from the faith of his childhood, Tim came back to faith in Christ during his late teen years through the witness of Christian televangelists. Soon after, Tim joined the Marine Corps. During his four-year tour, he became involved in ministry with various Assemblies of God communities. Immediately after his tour of duty, Tim enrolled in Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community. During his final year in the Marines, however, Tim met a Marine who really knew his faith and challenged Tim to study Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources. That encounter sparked a two-year search for the truth. Tim was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he ended up studying his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church! He converted to Catholicism in 1988 and spent the following six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania. He then studied theology on a graduate level at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, for two years. Realizing that his calling was not to the priesthood, Tim left the seminary in 1994 and has been working in Catholic apologetics and evangelization ever since. Catholic Apologist Extraordinaire! Tim Staples has given hundreds of talks all over the country and has helped thousands of people find their way home to the Catholic Church. He brings his extensive knowledge of Scripture into his tapes, books, and talks, helping others to see the strong biblical evidences that support Catholic doctrines. Tim's humorous enthusiasm captivates his audiences, and his unique style has brought him great renown as an engaging speaker.
