Symphony Space is a performing arts center based in New York City that fosters artistically and culturally diverse performing arts, literary, and film programs that bring artists and audiences together in an atmosphere of exploration and intimacy. This organization reaches audiences throughout New York City, the wider metropolitan area, and—through distribution of programs via media such as radio, recordings, podcasts, and touring—the nation. From AudioFile:
These seven stories, read by professional actors and originally aired on public radios Selected Shorts, focus mostly on children. Both stories and readings tend to excellence. The sound is a bit hollow, but one ceases to notice almost immediately. Among the narrators, Robert Sean Leonard disappoints somewhat; halting awkwardness and wrong emphases make it seem as if hes reading his story for the first time before the mike. There are a few other off moments, misread or misaccented lines. But Jill Eikenberrys and Linda Lavins lively readings are beyond quibble, as are stories by Shirley Jackson, Grace Paley, and Diane Leslie. Malachy McCourts note-perfect performance of a Frank OConnor classic about a boys first communion is especially delightful. This program is a nearly unalloyed pleasure.
