In 2000, when Rod Price decided to return to competitive canoe racing after turning forty years old, he had no idea of the exciting adventures and diverse locales that awaited him over the ensuing decade. From ten-mile races to fifty-mile races, and then multiday races, Rod recounts his steady progression to becoming one of the elite ultramarathon canoe racers in the country. This year, as he approaches his fiftieth birthday, Rod faces the greatest challenge his sport has to offer, the longest canoe race in the world—the Yukon 1000.

Rod Price lives on his own terms in Orlando, Florida. He owns and operates an office products company in central Florida, which allows him to train for his adventure races in the mornings. While many adults are slowing down in their forties, Rod had the most adventure-filled decade of his life. Protecting the natural habitat is important to him. He devotes his charitable time to the Friends of the Wekiva River, a central Florida organization whose mission is to safeguard the Wekiva River Basin northwest of Orlando. He serves as a board member and organizes a yearly canoe and kayak race for the group. In addition to coordinating adventure racing clinics, he has enjoyed speaking to organizations and corporate clients about the benefits of adventure racing for team building, assessing strengths and weaknesses, and overcoming perceived personal limitations.
