The Quince Legend

9781934449622: The Quince Legend

A young man, Barker, returns to the family home in historic South Carolina as he searches for the answers to the pain of the loss of his parents in a tragic accident, for which he blames himself. Woven around the legendary properties of the quince fruit, the symbol of love and happiness for the ancient Greeks, elucidation emerges from unexpected sources, particularly through an elderly man by the name of Gunter, who advocates a way of life he initially scoffs. At the same time, his ardent love for Polly, a local heiress, also undergoes radical alteration as he matures and gains further insight. The resolution of Barker s quest for peace and finding his place in the world is revealed through the pages of The Quince Legend.

About the Author:

Raised in a pristine cork oak farm in Europe where quince trees grew by a little creek, John Anselm became aware of the human disrespect of Mother Nature. After moving to America, he began writing fiction on the subject, as a hobby in the late Sixties while he was attending college. His first novel, Children of the World, was reviewed by his friend, the author Miriam Gilbert, who had published Shy Girl: The story of Eleanor Roosevelt. Ms. Gilbert said of his manuscript: You have written a most remarkable and challenging novel. It is quite remarkable in its style and approach. You can be proud of the accomplishment of having had the imagination, the inspiration, the incentive and the patience to write a book of the size and scope of Children of the World. Later, she commented, I still remember your overwhelming book. It was a magnificent tour de force. You spilled out your heart and guts in it. The depth of emotion, your sensitivity and insight were illuminating. For the next eight years, John Anselm composed yet another novel on the same theme. Just as he finished this work, his mind came upon the ultimate book. He couldn t resist the excitement of beginning the new effort. In the following seventeen years he was gripped by its power, The Quince Legend, designed to save the living planet. He started publishing his writings with the latest, and the author s favorite. His publisher is now considering publishing his previous works. John Anselm enjoys Ballroom, Latin and Swing dancing, his newest hobby, and proudly lives in the United States.
