Review:
Thank you for a tool that is brilliantly researched, extremely well organized and which allows us to focus on solutions rather than seeing children as problems! What I just love about this book is that it addresses both behavior and academic strategies. It is organized in a way that allows for a choice of strategies. Most importantly, it has allowed this (intervention) team to begin to change the tone of the discussions around students. I love the planning strategies which so many of our students need, but I especially like that it opens the door for discussions about academic interventions owned by adults. It does take work to learn to use the strategies effectively and it takes work to change perception from students owning the problem to our owning the solution. I loaned a copy to our assistant superintendent who is in charge of Support Services. She purchased the book for all of the district intervention teams leaders. When I shared with our Area Principals, our Area Superintendent purchased copies for all of our principals and several of them have indicated they intend to purchase the books for key staff in their schools. I will be sharing how we use the book with intervention team leaders for the district later this month. I am excited to see the Strategy Deck and will purchase one to explore (and no doubt share :-) ). --Pamela Espinosa, McClintock Middle School in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System
