#The Centurions, warriors who know no equal in all of Ares live for the chance to fight in great battles and prove their worth through blood and slaughter. Cursed to live not one day past the age of forty, the cruelties of life has taught these perfect soldiers to live without regrets or concern for tomorrow, and to live each moment with untamable passion. Out of all the people in Ares only one race has the power to leash the hearts of these pinnacle fighters and that is the gentle hand of men called Legatio who, cursed themselves, long ago turned their backs to the love offered them by their warrior cousins. All but one that is, Jason, Argot, rightful ruler of the Kingdom of Qul Tos, was born outside the bounders of the Centurion's Empire, Domus. While kept prisoner by his mother, the Queen Regent, he has grown into manhood without being raised by his fellow Legatio, lacking the hatred and prejudices his people have toward their Centurion protectors. In fact Jason has no knowledge of any man, living a life of naïve innocence in a tower high in the mountains, the path protected by a deadly maze called the Labyrinth. Jason does know one thing however. Above everything he could ever wish for it is love he desires above all else. With legions of Centurions coming to rescue this one young man from the cruelties of his mother neither Jason not his Centurion rescuers know that the path they will walk together is the one foretold in legends and prophecies, a time of great turmoil and love.

This foul sees The rot that grew within me Nine months of shame for me Oh the pain of birth Giving life to one of no worth A curse I spit on man that walks the earth All I see in he Is something that should not be A he... A he... A he... The words of the Queen Mother on the birth of her son, Jason the IX. Out on the balcony of the tower that had been his only home, a small pale skin boy watched the busy movements of the people far below in the white walled and blue tiled capital city of the kingdom of Qul Tos. It was the very city from which the kingdom gained its name achievement of the Tosian people, a fortress that had never fallen, was nothing more than a gilded prison for the unhappy prince. The five-year-old boy had already learned his name, his letters, and his numbers, the small library inside the towers walls his only escape from his prison's confines. Besides being very precocious, he was also remarkable in his appearance, with long brown hair, emerald green eyes, and skin perfect and smooth, the color of milk, a rare sight among the olive skin Tosians. Unfortunately, he was also an incredibly sad child, for under the rich white and blue robes he wore were a broken heart and a bruised body, living in a near loveless existence. Still, by the age of five, he had found something to help him escape his own suffering... his books. From them he learned of the words... mother, father, brother, friend and most importantly... love. Love... it was as if the boy lived in a desert with no oasis to offer him relief. His mother hated him... despising his very existence. His father... he had never seen any man, let alone his own father, but he knew he had to have one. For even while the books he read told him about the nature of man, the very sight of his fellow "men" was kept away from him by Eleanor, Queen Mother, and Regent of the Kingdom of Qul Tos. While being born the crown prince, he was without a crown, a secret kept from the people. In his place his mother used a small pretty girl whom the people readily accepted as their future Queen. Still his mother dared not to kill him. She would torture him both emotionally and physically but could not bring herself to killing him yet, just in case his father and his "evil" Centurions ever came for him. At least that was what his mother told him... "Watch out or the 'Centurion' beasts will come to kill you." It was repeated to him so many times that the prince...Review:
The Centurion Cycle a series of epic proportions begins with the three part first book titled "The Centurion". It opens with the start of a war between two great powers, Qul Tos ruled by the Ice Queen, Regent Eleanor against the Domus Empire led by its famed Centurion General, Agamemnon.
This one is easy to read and engaging. You learn about the Centurion and Legatio cultures as you get to know Jason. Makes you curious and want to know more, with erotic touches thrown in here and there. Definitely one of the best gay sci-fi fantasy stories I have encountered. And what is even better
It is Philip however who proves to have the strongest hold on Jason's heart. On the day of Jason's 21st birthday, after both he and Philip have been forced to flee the Academy and return back to Qul Tos the two express the ultimate sign of their love for each other and are forever transformed by the
