Paul K. Chappell graduated from West Point in 2002, was deployed to Baghdad, and left active duty in November 2009 as a captain. The author of three other books, he serves as the peace leadership director for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and lectures throughout the country and internationally. He grew up in Alabama, the son of a half-black and half-white father who fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and a Korean mother.
I am profoundly grateful for the courage and intelligence with which Paul K. Chappell serves his country.”
-- Barry Lopez, National Book Award winner
As a Vietnam combat veteran I think it is highly inspiring to discover that someone with Captain Chappell’s credentials has refocused his military training, discipline, courage, and compassion to redirect those skills toward the necessary strategies of gaining the peace. I highly recommend this book to everyone who cares about the subject, and pity all those who don’t.”
-- Thomas Steinbeck, John Steinbeck Family Foundation
Paul K. Chappell provides a cutting-edge perspective on peace issues, backed with extensive research and historical knowledge, as well as the skills that all activists need to be effective in challenging the war system and creating a culture of peace.”
-- Stephanie Knox Cubbon, Faculty, National Peace Academy;
Fellow, Metta Center for Nonviolence
