Cory's Story

9781935359555: Cory's Story

Cory's Story tells the true life of a yellow Labrador retriever, from the day author Sandra DeMers and her family bought him as a puppy until the present, and his incredible triumph over epilepsy. The story begins with the terrifying account of Cory's first grand mal seizure when he had just turned three years old. It then travels back to the amusing anecdotes of this likable Lab in his younger, healthy days. As it moves forward, it draws the reader into the frightening world of canine epilepsy and how Cory and his family cope with its challenges. More than cope, they completely cure Cory of his seizures by switching him to a diet of only raw food, instead of commercial dog food. As Cory never received any anti-epileptic drugs, only the change of diet can, unequivocally, explain how his seizures ceased more than five years ago. Cory's Story gives owners of dogs with epilepsy information and resources to make informed decisions about treatment options and, finally, aims to give as many dogs as possible better lives by convincing their owners that a natural diet consisting of raw meat on the bone is the healthiest way to feed them.

About the Author:

Sandra was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, the daughter of an adventuresome airline pilot who flew many missions on Mt. McKinley. About a year after she had completed her bachelor's degree from the University of Washington, double-majoring in French literature and anthropology, she handily put her studies to use by marrying an American Indian with a French surname. She loves to travel to sunny places, where she can scuba dive with her husband and son, and to go camping with her family in their motor home all over the beautiful state of Washington with the ever camping-loving Cory.

Review:

This book is a must read for every dog owner. Cory's story will not just melt your heart and make you laugh; it will enlighten you to the dangers of commercial pet food and how feeding it to your dog can contribute to diseases such as epilepsy. This story will take you on an amazing journey of discovery of how one very brave dog and his loving and devoted family overcame his battle with this disease by feeding him a raw, natural diet and applying natural treatments and therapies. --Nikki Brown, The UK Dog Whisperer - Canine Angel

Your book is such a beautiful tribute to Cory's life. I felt fear and worry in the beginning of the story but reading on to the funny antics of his enjoying the pot roast in the car (which I m sure that Cory felt you had brought and left there just for him!), to the head in the potato chip bag, the bowling babies, the head dive into your sleeping bag and on and on! Having some laugh out loud moments is such fun! It is my hope that those who read the story learn and understand how much you did for Cory and also all of the other dog parents who will learn of the dangers of processed dog food. Finding the right veterinarian and changing his diet added immeasurably to his quality of life. --Alison Astair

Five stars. Owners of dogs with a seizure disorder will gain insight from the book as DeMers recounts the diet changes that helped Cory overcome his own epilepsy. The DeMers family learned that Cory's diet greatly influenced both is epilepsy and his overall health. Owners of perfectly healthy companions will simply enjoy a heart-warming story about a family and their almost spiritual bond with their cherished dog. --Examiner.com
