Betina Havig has been quilting since 1970 and teaching since 1974. Bettina is a quiltmaker, teacher, lecturer, judge, quilt historian, and consultant. She has taught for guilds throughout the U.S. as well as in Spain, Ireland, Wales, Germany, England, and Scotland. In 2008, Bettina was the featured quilter of the Spanish Patchwork Association annual conference.
Bettina has been an active member of the American Quilt Study Group since 1980 and presented a paper on the findings of the Missouri Heritage Quilt Project at its annual seminar in 1986. Bettina served as President of AQSG from 2002 to 2006 and represented AQSG on the advisory board of the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, NE, 2002-2006.
Her work has been featured in American Patchwork and Quilting, Quilters' Newsletter Magazine, Quilt, Lady's Circle Patchwork, Traditional Quiltworks, Quilting Today, Sew Many Quilts, and Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting. She was featured in both the British Patchwork and Quilting and the French Quilt Mania magazines.
This is her first Kansas City Star book; she has written six other books.
Bettina is active in her local quilt guild in Columbia, MO, and was founding chairman of the Missouri State Quilters' Guild. She serves on the national advisory board for collections and on the board of trustees for the National Quilt Museum (formerly MAQS) in Paducah, KY. She also serves on the board of the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, NE. Bettina maintains a busy travel and teaching schedule throughout the year, which helps her stay current on quilts and quilt values. She is preparing an exhibit of Amish crib quilts as guest curator for the New England Quilt Museum opening January, 2010.
