The tree, with its simple beauty and symmetry, calls to the artist in all of us. It's no wonder that the tree has been an image used on appliqué quilts almost from the beginning.
In mid-19th century quilts, Karla Menaugh and Barbara Brackman found a forest of light-hearted inspiration. They have created a fanciful block-of-the-month quilt based on these quirky, one-of-a-kind tree patterns.
As you create these playful tree blocks, Karla and Barbara show you how to machine appliqué in their signature style using freezer paper and a variable overlock stitch to mimic hand appliqué. Each block has tips to help improve your technique as you progress through the quilt. Four additional projects including a make-do, pincushions, a wall hanging and a table runner are included.
