In the wake of a political attack on personal integrity, Berlean Burris had no choice but to just stand. The media hounded her family and her husband, Senator Roland W. Burris when he was appointed to the United States Senate from Illinois. Berlean was expected to remain silent and observe the falsehoods regarding her husband's character. Soon, the intense isolation and despair became a transitional moment for Berlean to rest on a firm foundation of family, faith, and years of public service and just stand for something greater than herself.

She has been awarded numerous awards and fellowships, as well as degrees from Northwestern University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola University of Chicago, and Moody Theological Seminary. She continues to serve the citizens of Chicago through community efforts and her faithful service to St. John Church-Baptist, where she has been a member for more than 40 years.Review:
Berlean is to be commended for communicating the story of her journey in such a clear and compelling way. From my perspective, it seems that this narrative forged in the realities of life as a political spouse could very well be helpful to many. --Dr. Joseph M. StowellPresident, Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids MI

Her journey demonstrates how faith, family, determination, hard work, and prayer lead to success and survival. This book will inspire readers to work hard, trust God, and achieve their goals. --Dr. Ricky Freeman, Pastor, Saint John Church-Baptist, Chicago, Illinois
The pages of this book ooze with evidence that Dr. Burris lives what Paul admonishes the believers in the church at Colosse to live out: Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise... From her early childhood in rural Mississippi to the many places of influence and service that God assigned her, she makes much of Christ. In Just Stand, Dr. Burris chronicles her life of triumphs and trials. In each place, she stands on the Word of God because she realizes that Jesus Christ is preeminent. You will be encouraged and challenged to embrace the truth that God communicates through His Word. --Milton & Cynthia Massie Campus Crusade for Christ, Chicago, Illinois
