Although I have written non-fiction, poetry was my first love and I have been writing it since the age of thirteen.  My philosophy of poetry is simple -  it should be accessible to everyone.  You will not find "academic" poems here.  Instead, you will find poems that are easy to connect to, poems that deal with the things we have in common as human beings.  Among the themes here are loss, love, childhood, grief, and growth.  When I get an email from a kid from the inner city who read my book in a class saying,  "I really related to that poem about your grandmother and it reminded me so much of my own", then I know my words have done their job, transcending race, religion, ethnicity, locale, and a host of other things that so often divide us.  Poetry has the ability to rise above all our differences and connect us.  Many people fear poetry because they think it must be hard to understand.  These poems aim to prove that theory incorrect, and I have gotten many emails by people pleasantly surprised by the fact that they could read and understand poetry in ways they never anticipated.  Give them a try.  You might just find a little bit of you on the pages.

About the Author:

Linda Principe is a freelance writer and adjunct professor of English at the College of Staten Island, where she has taught writing and literature for the last thirty years. In addition to Tangible Remains: Selected Poems and Echoes of Light: New Poems, she is the author of Surviving Murder: A True Crime Memoir, a gripping first-hand account of the murder of her aunt and uncle by her cousin, in one of the worst crimes in the annals of Staten Island history.  She is a victims' rights advocate who has presented workshops for survivors of homicide and other violent crimes in a variety of forums. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing the guitar, songwriting, and collecting sea glass.
