The world is quick to have you believe that where you come from dictates where you are going. Specifically, the world tells you that if you have never seen success or did not come from success, you will never be successful. After all, nothing from nothing leaves nothing, right? Wrong, I am living proof that you can come from nothing and achieve anything. Throughout this book, I will use my personal life experiences and original poetry to deliver a message of hope and inspiration, and I will also provide specific instructions that will guide you to and through the journey that leads to success. I will explain how I used the power of hope and choice to survive and flourish despite being born with heroin in my system, being abandoned by my mother, never knowing my father, being subjected to physical, mental and emotional abuse and molestation, living in poverty and enduring the foster care system before finally being adopted. After reading this book, you will be motivated, encouraged and inspired to make the choice today to let go of yesterday s disappointments and work toward tomorrow s success.

Like most women in today s society, Mrs. Cherry wears many hats. She is a wife, mother of two, career woman, volunteer, poet, motivational speaker and author. In addition to having a highly successful and satisfying career in law enforcement, Mrs. Cherry also dedicates a countless number of hours to volunteering her time to the motivation, encouragement and inspiration of others through poetry. Although Mrs. Cherry has made volunteering a regular part of her life in several different capacities (coaching, public speaking, mentoring etc.), she has found her use of poetry as a motivational tool to be the most rewarding. Mrs. Cherry uses her gift of motivational speaking through poetry to empower others, strengthen her community, bridge barriers and identify solutions to address real problems that plague our communities, such as poverty, the school dropout crisis and illiteracy. Recently, Mrs. Cherry created a presentation using a combination of poetry, motivational speaking and video clips focusing on perseverance to deliver a message of self-determination to youth and young adults in foster care, youth centers, schools and homeless shelters. Often times she will tell her own story of overcoming adversity (abandonment, abuse, poverty, foster care etc.) to serve as an example of what can be achieved through perseverance. Mrs. Cherry feels a sense of pride by serving as a role model to those who may see her as someone whom they aspire to imitate. Mrs. Cherry has always been of the belief that she has an obligation to reach back and touch the life of someone else. To that end, she is committed to the community from which she came, devoted to positively impacting the life of someone else and determined to bless another the way that she has been blessed. Mrs. Cherry understands her responsibility to promote growth and prosperity within her community and does not take this obligation lightly. To date, Mrs. Cherry has written and published numerous poems and has performed her poetry in a number of open forums in front of both small and large audiences (upwards of 15,000 people). Mrs. Cherry has performed at conventions, galas, graduations, weddings, funerals, school events, specialized programs and church services. Most notably, Mrs. Cherry was fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to present one of her original poems written and dedicated to the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a peace gathering where she opened up for keynote speaker Martin Luther King III (approximately 2,000 attendees). Mrs. Cherry has also written and performed a number of poems dedicated to the memory of fallen law enforcement officers, one of which was featured in a national law enforcement publication. In addition, one of Mrs. Cherry s poems focusing on the qualities of a good leader was inducted into a national leadership training course provided to high level executives who serve in various capacities within the federal government.Review:
