Isle of Mystery is the second part of an adventure trilogy in the award-winning Salty Splashes Collection cartoon series for boys and girls ages 4-12+. Picking up where Dreamy Drums left off, our cartoon cast is ready to explore an eerie island far from home. On the way, they have many encounters with the island's yellow-eyed denizens until they finally make a friend while attempting to make camp before dark. A rich mix of narrative and dialogue further develops the personalities of our cast and effectively sets the stage for a climactic ending to this initial adventure in book three, Gansevort. While the lush visual storyboards and action heighten the Movies On Paper theme, the discussion topics also abound, touching on teamwork, resilience and making the best of an unexpected situation. This animated theme is stepped up in the digital version of Dreamy Drums: Read To Me eBooks and a trilogy Audiobook contain Fully Dramatized Soundtracks with Cartoon Voice Overs and Sound Effects that make our cartoon world come to life.

Most children I know are fascinated by far-away lands and mysterious places, intrigued by the unknown and thrilled by the adventure of discovery. Isle of Mystery is set against our fictional version of The Channel Islands, anchoring the central coast of Santa Barbara, where I live. I often imagine what it would have been like to live there when the cattle ranches were still operating, and see the island foxes roaming around in their pristine territory. This book is my fantasy version of that place and sets the stage for a very important, new character. My favorite part about this book is how the cartoons form a cohesive bond and mature as a team. It’s a great lesson for kids.
I write Salty Splashes to entice young children into the act of reading, and to introduce real literature at the same time.
Humorous adventure stories are told in lyrical rhyming fiction, presented against full-page cartoon illustrations that grab their eyes and interest.
These are great books for story time with adults because they are substantial and full of narrative and character dialogue, which makes story time more fun and more likely to happen. Notably, life lessons are displayed through the comical actions of cartoons and their resulting consequences. Parents appreciate these embedded discussion topics, which add a meaningful dimension to story time.
Beginners and Intermediates will also greatly benefit from these books due to the lyrical rhymes, which make learning words easier while introducing the literary style of poetry, as well as the illustrated storyboards, which aid reading comprehension and satisfy their imagination. (JZ Bingham)
