About the Author

Piers Allfrey Vaughan was born in Brighton, England, and attended Brighton College, as well as Oxford and Cranfield Universities. He was an avid musician, singing in a local church, playing several instruments, conducting and composing; he was also a keen fencer, and enjoyed appearing in local plays.
He has an MA in Psychology, an MBA in Business Studies and an MA in Divinity. He has worked for a number of banks, including Midland, HSBC and Deutsche Bank, living in England, Germany and Switzerland before moving to the USA in the early 1990s.
A Mason for 40 years, he is a 33rd in the A.A.S.R. and a Past Grand High Priest of New York State. An interest in 18th Century French Masonic Ritual led him to translate a number of important treatises and rituals into English. He is also very involved in a number of Orders outside of Freemasonry, predominantly ones which have an esoteric background, and is also the head of a church descended from the Pre-Nicene Church of Richard, Duc de Palatine. He is the author of "Of Errors & Truth," a translation of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin's 1775 book, "Renaissance Man and Mason" a collection of Masonic and Esoteric talks, and "Capitular Development Course."
Piers is primate of the Apostolic Church of the Golden & Rosy Cross, a descendent of the Pre-Nicene Church of Richard Duc de Palatine and the Order of the Pleroma, a member of several Esoteric Societies; an Esoteric and Masonic lecturer and writer; an avid translator of old French texts; a traveler and a permanent student.

From the Back Cover

In 1782, seven years after the great success ofhis first book "Of Errors & Truth", Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin followedit up with his second book, "Natural Table".

By now his thoughts were far clearer to him, andhis style had matured into a far more cohesive structure - albeit still quitedifficult to modern readers - and his continued deference to his first Master,Martinez de Pasqually is very clear. However, he has now streamlined thecomplex Theosophy of his Master's "Treatise on the Reintegration of Beings" anduses more conventional terms. It is also interesting to see that he stillincorporates the Elus Cohen, that extraordinary theurgical Masonic offshoot;and also the numerical ideas initially stated in "Of Errors & Truth".

Like Pasqually before him, he uses stories fromthe Old Testament, and in the myths, legends and histories of Ancient Mythologyand Religion, to illustrate how we can find proofs of man's glorious origin andhis disastrous fall.

Once again, as well as providing a fascinatinginsight into the mind of a great, yet unorthodox, Christian thinker, we catch aglimpse of life in late 18th Century France, together with its politics, sciences, philosophy and mores.

It is hoped that this translation will proveuseful to all students of this important period in French history, rememberingthat the year of its publication saw the Convent of Wilhelmsbad - thatimportant Masonic Conference which still reverberates today - and to allanglophone Martinists seeking an opportunity to read the original materials.
