Following the success of 'Of Errors & Truth', published in 1775, this second book by the Unknown Philosopher (Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin), published in 1782, continues his theories of the relationships between God, Man and Nature, and goes on to provide an exegesis on the origin of religion, tracing it through the early civilizations to the Prophets of the Old Testament, and introduces the Book of Man, the actions of the Repairer, and finally the End of Times.

In 1782, seven years after the great success ofhis first book "Of Errors & Truth", Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin followedit up with his second book, "Natural Table".
By now his thoughts were far clearer to him, andhis style had matured into a far more cohesive structure - albeit still quitedifficult to modern readers - and his continued deference to his first Master,Martinez de Pasqually is very clear. However, he has now streamlined thecomplex Theosophy of his Master's "Treatise on the Reintegration of Beings" anduses more conventional terms. It is also interesting to see that he stillincorporates the Elus Cohen, that extraordinary theurgical Masonic offshoot;and also the numerical ideas initially stated in "Of Errors & Truth".
Like Pasqually before him, he uses stories fromthe Old Testament, and in the myths, legends and histories of Ancient Mythologyand Religion, to illustrate how we can find proofs of man's glorious origin andhis disastrous fall.
Once again, as well as providing a fascinatinginsight into the mind of a great, yet unorthodox, Christian thinker, we catch aglimpse of life in late 18th Century France, together with its politics, sciences, philosophy and mores.
It is hoped that this translation will proveuseful to all students of this important period in French history, rememberingthat the year of its publication saw the Convent of Wilhelmsbad - thatimportant Masonic Conference which still reverberates today - and to allanglophone Martinists seeking an opportunity to read the original materials.
