What makes this new world unique?

In the Sun-Blessed Trilogy, the magical system is tied to childbirth. I love the miracle of birth, and tying magic to such an incredible event felt natural and appropriate. Some of the heroes in this series are midwives, who pass magic on to sun-blessed children and later train these same children to use their gifts.

What audiences is the series appropriate for?

This trilogy is clean fantasy. There is no cursing, explicit sexual content, or gory violence. It’s appropriate for teen and adult audiences. I wanted to write a series my own kids could read, and I’m happy to provide an exciting, quality story that a wide variety of ages will enjoy.

Carol Beth Anderson is a native of Arizona and now lives in Leander, TX, outside Austin. She has a husband, two kids, a miniature schnauzer, and more fish than anyone knows what to do with. Besides writing, she loves baking sourdough bread, knitting, and eating cookies-and-cream ice cream.

Facing the Sun, the debut novel by Carol Beth Anderson, is an imaginative tale with a unique magic system that will delight on every page. She spins a story that explores the circumstances that would turn someone away from what is right, and you truly feel for those that choose the shadowy underbelly of society.

The main character, Tavi, is the first "all blessed" member of Cormina who struggles with the responsibilities pushed on her from birth. Everyone watches her come into her powers with morbid curiosity - so much so that even other towns know everything about her. She needs learn how to control the power given to her and utilize it for what she believes is good without outside manipulation. Friendships are gained and lost in an accurate portrayal of adolescent struggle, but the true threat of emerging "gray" magic propels Tavi and her friends into action.

Anderson masters the subtle nuance of pulling heart strings in many directions while moving the story along in expert utilization of prose. There are many layers woven together, building a foundation that strengthens the story and ties you to each character.

She is a master storyteller with a bright future, and I cannot wait to move on to the next in the series.

Facing the Sun is a wonderful debut novel by Carol Beth Anderson. I was drawn in on the first page and couldn't read it fast enough.
Anderson has done a fabulous job of world-building and character development. This is a beautiful coming of age story but there is a bit of everything in the book -- magic, lovable characters, conflict, tension, romance and a fantastic build-up of the battle to come. I can't wait to find out what happens with Tavi and her friends in the upcoming novels.
I loved the theme of "I Am Enough" -- a message all of us need to hear and remind ourselves of more often.
I would highly recommend this book to readers of all ages.
