In the small country town of Lampasas, Texas, a boy was born into a world at war. James Briggs grew up in modest circumstances with an often-absent father and a mother who worked fulltime at a time that wasn’t common. Yet he went on to work his way through Texas A&M as a forest-fire hotshot and was a distinguished military graduate. Commissioned into the Army, James was deployed to both Vietnam and Korea, with additional service in Germany as well as stateside. During all that, he married and started a family—only to have tragedy strike.
The inspiring story of how he overcame the worst blow life can strike to continue service to his community and country is filled with love and hope.
