Published in 1943 by the Japanese Army, this illustrated guide was part of the plan to arm civilians to defend the Empire of Japan during the final stages of World War II. At this stage of the war, the lack of modern weaponry and ammunition meant that simple weapons had to be constructed. This was a last measure to defend the Japanese home islands against the projected Allied invasion
The guide contains two sections: one for learners and one for instructors. The illustrations show how to hold the spear, advance, attack as well as instructions for building and arranging practice targets.
