Pari has never watched a superhero movie, but finds herself in a real struggle to survive a warzone every day. She manages to cope with her fears by reading her only storybook with its last pages missing and imagines various endings, revealing her a kinder and safer place. Her love of fables and her storybook are constant sources of comfort. Pari's worries are not just about herself, but also about her family and her little dog Saffron who all need to escape the harrowing dangers that are fast approaching them. When war threatens to engulf them completely, they realize that escaping is the only way out. As Pari and her family are forced to flee, she wonders whether time is on their side.

About the Author
Zahra Omar Shansab is an award-winning author and started writing poetry and short stories when she was in 4th grade in Kabul, Afghanistan. Forced to flee Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation, she lived in India for several years before immigrating to the United States. After receiving a degree in psychology she enjoyed working with children of diverse backgrounds. Her personal experiences as a woman and an immigrant compel her to tell the stories of the downtrodden and the desperate. Her first book, The Shoeshine of Kabul, is a Gold Mom’s Choice Award Recipient, Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Finalist and won Honorable Mentions in the Hollywood, Paris, New York, and San Francisco Book Festivals.
