About the Author
Robert Eaker, EdD, is a professor emeritus at Middle Tennessee State University, where he also served as dean of the College of Education and interim vice president and provost. Dr. Eaker is a former fellow with the National Center for Effective Schools Research and Development. He has written widely on the issues of effective teaching, effective schools, helping teachers use research findings, and high expectations for student achievement. He was cited by Phi Delta Kappan as one of the nation's leaders in helping public school educators translate research into practice. Dr. Eaker was instrumental in the founding of the Tennessee Teachers Hall of Fame and was a regular contributor to the Effective Schools Research Abstracts series.
Mike Hagadone is the assistant superintendent of White River School District in Washington State. With 36 years of experience, he is a former teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director of secondary education. During his tenure as principal at White River High School, the school was recognized as a Washington Achievement Award Winner and a School of Distinction. Recently, White River High School was designated as a Model PLC by Solution Tree. Mike was selected as the Washington High School Principal of the Year in 2011 and has served as the president of the Washington Association of Secondary School Principals.
Janel Keating is superintendent of the White River School District in the state of Washington. An accomplished educator with more than 25 years of experience, she is a former elementary and middle school teacher, elementary principal, director of student learning, and deputy superintendent. For eight years, Janel was principal of Mountain Meadow Elementary School. During her time there, Mountain Meadow was recognized as one of the highest academically performing elementary schools in the state. Janel has been named Principal of the Year in Pierce County, Washington, and was a recipient of the 2013 Carroll College 2013 Alumni Academic Achievement Award. Janel has written books and numerous articles on leadership and school improvement.
Meagan Rhoades is the district assessment coordinator in White River School District in the state of Washington. She has worked in this district for more than twenty years. She comes from an educational family, which has grounded her in the work of teachers, despite never having worked in the classroom. Meagan came to this position in an unusual way, starting in the district as a substitute paraeducator, then working as a building secretary, moving to the district office, and working in the technology department. When Janel Keating moved to the district office, Meagan stepped in as her assistant, and from there moved into the assessment coordinator position.
