About this title

About the Author

Beth Pandolpho is an instructional coach in New Jersey. She has taught English at the high school and college level for over twenty years. At the college level, she taught courses in remedial reading and freshman English as well as created a hybrid online course for remedial reading. She taught a summer social justice series to high school students in her community and trained at The Moth Teacher Institute to learn how to give students a platform to speak about issues and tell their stories. Her mission is to raise students’ voices by offering them authentic school experiences that mirror their real-life passions. She believes listening to students and attending to their social-emotional needs can help them thrive both personally and academically.
She has written for Education Week, Educational Leadership, and The New York Times Learning Network, and is a frequent contributor to Edutopia. Beth earned a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature at the University of Maryland, a master’s of science degree in reading at Adelphi University, and her supervisory certification for curriculum and instruction at Rutgers University. Katie Cubano is an educator interested in teacher leadership toward curriculum and instruction that effectively and equitably meets students’ needs. After teaching English for over a decade, she became an instructional coach in 2019. Katie is passionate about providing each student access to their civil right to education, and about supporting teachers and schools toward expanding their vision of what it means to teach for a more civil, sustainable, and just future. Throughout her career, she has worked to improve educational outcomes for underserved student populations through her own practice, collaboration with colleagues, and partnerships with school communities and district leaders.
In 2018, Katie published an article, “A Legacy of Collaboration: Supporting Reflective Practitioners through Teacher Work Groups,” with friend and colleague Carolyn Ross that examined a case study on teacher leadership in English Leadership Quarterly. Katie is a career-long active member of NCTE, and, in the last six years, has become an active member of NCTE’s Conference on English Leadership. She has presented at multiple NCTE and CEL annual conventions. In addition, she has served on the review team to evaluate session proposals for CEL’s conventions. She was a CEL Emerging Leaders fellow in 2015, and served as a fellowship mentor from 2019–2020. Katie will serve as the CEL Program Chair for an upcoming CEL convention.
After earning the Robert H. Mehlman Award for Excellence in Student Teaching upon graduation in 2008, Katie has maintained a strong relationship with the teacher education program at her alma mater, The College of New Jersey. She has served on assessment panels for student teaching capstone presentations and returned often to provide and participate in professional development for preservice and novice teachers.
