Chandra Lopez Brooks is the President of Building Peaceful Families. In that role, she is the "face" of BPF in the community and the primary media contact. In her professional life, Chandra is the Northern California Staff Director for SEIU-USWW, one of the largest and most active unions in the country representing some of the most vulnerable workers in California. Before SEIU Chandra was the Business and Community Director for San Jose Jobs Corps, a Federal Residential Workforce Educational Program under the Department of Labor. While at Job Corps, Chandra established partnerships with organizations such as Levi Stadium, Smart & Final, Kaiser and The Valley Transportation Authority. In this position, Chandra recruited local Congress members Michael Honda, Anna Eshoo and Zoe Lofgren to join the Friends of Job Corps Caucus, a National Caucus that advises the National Job Corps Association. Chandra serves as the Vice Chair of Santa Clara County's Commission on the Status ofWomen and Girls; in that role, she works on human trafficking, equal pay issues and the oversight of local women's correctional facilities. Chandra is also a Board member of the East Valley YMCA. Born and raised in San Jose, Chandra's passion is her community, civil rights, and social justice issues, improving voter outcomes and civic engagement for the underserved and disenfranchised. In 2013 Chandra received the Portrait of Success Award from the Hispanic Development Corporation and in 2014 the Activist of the Year Award from Latinos Action Media (LAM). In 2015 Chandra was named one of the Most Influential Women in Silicon Valley from The Silicon Valley Business Journal and inducted into the East Side Unified High School District Hall of Fame. She's also been named: 2016 Latina With Vision Award from New York Life, 2016 Women of the Year in Advocacy, 100 Black Women in Silicon Valley
