Les oiseaux invitent le roi Babar et sa famille à se rendre sur leur île. Là, ils rencontrent une multitude d'oiseaux qui leur font visiter leur nid ou leur offrent chacun une spécialité. Ils assistent même à une étonnante course d'autruches !

About the Author
Même s’il a toujours dessiné des éléphants sur ces cahiers d’écolier, Laurent de Brunhoff, le fils aîné de Jean, lorsqu’il devient peintre à son tour, s’éloigne résolument de la tradition familiale en choisissant la voie de l’abstraction. Mais parallèlement, il n’abandonne pas les aventures de Babar. Poussé par son oncle, et alors qu’il a tout juste treize ans, il prend le relais de son père, d’abord en achevant la mise en couleurs de deux de ses titres, puis, dès 1946, en publiant son premier album de Babar : Babar et ce coquin d’Arthur. Depuis ce jour, il a publié quinze nouvelles aventures de Babar, toutes éditées chez Hachette.
Grâce à lui, l’univers de Babar s’est, au fil du temps, modernisé, ouvert au monde et à d’autres personnages : le professeur Grifaton, le petit canard vert, le Wouly-Wouly. Babar et Célèste ont même donné une petite sœur, Isabelle, à Pom, Flore et Alexandre. Mais qu’il voyage dans l’île aux oiseaux ou aux Etats-Unis, qu’il se rende en fusée sur une étrange planète molle ou qu’Arthur circule à moto, Babar et son univers poétique demeurent inchangés à jamais.
