From the Inside Flap:

Due out in September, Michelin's groundbreaking new road atlas is chock full of user-friendly features that make trip planning and navigating easier than ever. The biggest innovation: Maps are organized by geographic region, not the alphabet- the way you actually drive. When's the last time you started in Alabama to go to Wyoming, anyway?

- Easy to Use -

The continent is divided into a logical sequence of squares. Each square is an easy-to-use map that makes fast, accurate travel as simple as turning a page. Now motorists can use "go-to" pointers to trace their route from one map to the next, without all the flipping and frustration.

"We think travel should be fun from the time you start planning your trip until the time you get your vacation photos developed," said Gayle Sparks Miller, V.P., Michelin Travel Publications. "We are thrilled to be launching a product that can make the road trip a more pleasant experience."

When it comes to calculating distances, Michelin eliminates the guesswork. Thanks to the unique atlas format (geographic vs. alphabetic) map scale rarely changes, so you don't have to keep recalculating inches per mile as you cross state or country borders. And for travel between major cities, Michelin does the math for you with over 170 easy-to-use charts: an interstate map with distance and driving times, a city-to-city distance chart for major North American cities, and a regional distance chart on each page spread. For added convenience and appeal, distance calculations are provided in both miles and kilometers.

- Easy to Handle -

Michelin's new atlas is also spiral bound and more compact (9?w x 10.875?h) than most atlases, the format preferred by more than 70 percent of consumers surveyed. That means it lies flat for easier navigating and folds over easily so it can be tucked away in a glove box. A handy legend also serves as a built-in bookmark to keep key information at your fingertips when you need it.

- Easy to Trust -

Using Michelin's legendary clear, uncluttered map style, this new atlas offers motorists the most comprehensive coverage available for drivable portions of the United States, Canada and Mexico. Even the index is packed with useful extras like metropolitan maps (arranged alphabetically by city) that highlight area cities and towns as well as downtown maps that highlight points of interest for sightseeing. You'll also find eight additional maps of the Northeast Corridor (Washington, D.C. to Boston) to provide greater detail for navigating through this densely populated portion of the United States.

What's more, this new atlas is the only North America road atlas with Michelin quality. It's backed by a company whose business is mobility, so motorists can count on finding renowned Michelin quality, innovation and value in every product we sell- from tires to wheels to maps and guides. Review:

Michelin has developed a blockbuster. Unlike other atlases, it is ingeniously organized geographically--not alphabetically--map design is legible, appealing, and detailed. -- From the editors at TravelandLeisure.com, September 25, 2002
