Synopsis
"Rien ne vous prépare à l'Ouest", dit le narrateur, l'étudiant étranger de Philippe Labro, parti travailler tout un été dans les montagnes du Colorado. Pour atteindre ce territoire irréel et sauvage, il est d'abord confronté au peuple de la "route". Il rencontre Amy, la fille Clarke, aux cheveux fous, qui exhalent des senteurs de fleurs séchées - la liberté même. Il vivra avec elle un grand amour, fulgurant, dont le souvenir ne cessera de le hanter. Dans l'Ouest, c'est un autre monde, celui d'hommes porteurs de mystère : Bill, colosse impénétrable, recherché par d'étranges motards ; Dick, et son regard insensé de cascadeur ; Mack, qui l'initie aux secrets de la forêt. Au terme de cette aventure initiatique, qu'est devenu le jeune homme ignorant, apeuré, assoiffé de vivre et de savoir qui se faisait appeler Frenchy ?
