About the Author
Georges Simenon (1903-1989) est le quatrième auteur francophone le plus traduit dans le monde. Né à Liège, il débute très jeune dans le journalisme et, sous divers pseudonymes, fait ses armes en publiant un nombre incroyable de romans « populaires ». Dès 1931, il crée sous son nom le personnage du commissaire Maigret, devenu mondialement connu, et toujours au premier rang de la mythologie du roman policier. Simenon rencontre immédiatement le succès, et le cinéma s’intéresse dès le début à son œuvre. Ses romans ont été adaptés à travers le monde en plus de 70 films, pour le cinéma, et plus de 350 films de télévision. Il écrivit sous son propre nom 192 romans, dont 75 Maigret, et 117 romans qu’il appelait ses « romans durs », 158 nouvelles, plusieurs œuvres autobiographiques et de nombreux articles et reportages. Insatiable voyageur, il fut élu membre de l’Académie royale de Belgique.
