Synopsis
Ci Song est un jeune garçon d’origine modeste qui vit dans la Chine du XIIIe siècle. Après la mort de ses parents, l’incendie de leur maison et l’arrestation de son frère, il quitte son village avec sa petite sœur malade. C’est à Lin’an, capitale de l’empire, qu’il devient fossoyeur des « champs de la mort » avant d’accéder à la prestigieuse Académie Ming. Son talent pour expliquer les causes d’un décès le rend célèbre. Lorsque l'écho de ses exploits parvient aux oreilles de l'empereur, celui-ci le convoque pour enquêter sur une série d'assassinats. S'il réussit, il entrera au sein du Conseil des Châtiments ; s'il échoue, c'est la mort. C'est ainsi que Cí Song, le lecteur de cadavres, devient le premier médecin légiste de tous les temps. Un roman, inspiré par la vie d’un personnage réel, captivant et richement documenté où, dans la Chine exotique de l'époque médiévale, la haine côtoie l'ambition, comme l'amour, la mort.

About the Author
Enseignant passionné d’histoire, Antonio Garrido a consacré sept ans à l’écriture de son premier livre, La Scribe. Son ouvrage suivant, Le Lecteur de cadavres, best-seller mondial, a reçu le Prix international du roman historique et le prix Griffe noire 2014. Le Jardin des énigmes est son quatrième roman.
