Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Luce, Maximilien (illustrator). 1st Edition. 2 volumes. Vol. I is bilingual in English and in French; Vol. II in French only. A third volume was apparently issued in 2005 and is not included here. Éditions Jean Bouin-Luce. Presumed first printing of the first edition. Printed and bound in France. Size 12.25 x 9.75 inches. Bound in oxblood-colored cloth, with crisp silver-stamped lettering to the front boards and the spines. Unbumped spine heads and tails, and with sharp corners except the outer corners of Vol. II are very gently bumped. Immensely clean bindings. Text blocks firmly bound in. All pages are of heavy-duty, semi-glossy paper. Volume I, 243 numbered pages. With numerous full page, full color plates and B&W plates, as well as several duotone photographs of the artist and his family and associates. Volume II, 640 numbered pages. With 2,676 works of the artist reproduced in small format, in B&W. Pastedowns/FEPs of both volumes with moderate off-setting from the dust jackets. Else impressively clean interiors, with no stampings or underlining observed. The full-pictorial dust jackets are intact but rubbed and dog-eared, and with a few small repaired tears. Near Fine volumes in Good Only DJs. Rare in any condition. 11 lbs. 4 oz. This two-volume book is a catalogue raissoné of the painted works of the Parisian artist, Maximilien Luce [1858-1941]. Luce was among the most productive of the Neo-impressionists, creating over two thousand oil paintings, a comparably large number of watercolors, gouaches, pastels, and drawings, plus over a hundred prints.
