Synopsis
Anfang der 50er Jahre trommelt und schreibt in einer Heil- und Pflegeanstalt ein Buckliger des Jahrgangs 1924 die Geschichte seines Lebens und seiner Familie vom Begin des Jahrhunderts bis in das Deutschland Adenauers. Oskar Matzerath hat alles gesehen und gehört, nichts ist ihm entgangen, denn er war ein hellhöriger Säugling, dessen geistige Entwicklung bereits bei der Geburt abgeschlossen war. Der Außenseiter, der Wirklichkeit ertrommeln und Glas zersingen kann, erweist sich dabei als der einzige Gesunde in einer Welt des Scheins, der Lüge und des Verbrechens.
