English summary: Tannhauser: For more than eight hundred years, the unruly Minnesinger has been stirring our emotions. His name became a trademark for eccentric artists who are willing to fight existing norms even if it leads to self-destruction. Wagner's Tannhauser attacks the foundation of the Christian social order, which seemed to be unalterable: Love was exercised under the laws of moral standards. The revolt against a socially defined love ideal is just one of the two defining features of the Tannhauser figure. The second is the change in form and content turning away from the rules of Minnesinging and turning it into an unconventional artificial creation. German text.

Book Description Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht Gm Mrz 2010, 2010. Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - For more than 800 years the story of Tannhäuser, the rebellious German Minnesänger and courtier at the court of Frederick II of Austria, has moved people and influenced poetry written in his style. His name came to be synonymous with that of an eccentric artist who takes up fights with the mores of the day to the edge of self-destruction. Tannhäuser's attacks were directed at the very foundation of Christian order, held in that day to be unshakeable: Lovemaking was subject to the laws of convention and moral order. His revolt against society's strict norms of ideal love, however, was only one of the things we associate with Tannhäuser; his deviations from the strict rules of minnesong was of his very own construction. 247 pp. Deutsch.
