The purpose of this book is to acquaint the reader with the essential knowledge needed to understand electrochemical engineering and technology. It permits him to design and carry out laboratory and large-scale experiments to produce conclusions for the development and improvement of electrochemical processes. The overall aim is to take the aspects of process and reaction engineering familiar from chemical engineering and apply them to electrochemistry. The course content is presented in the form of an experimental manual, with a general introduction to each subject followed by a collection of experiments with results. The main emphasis is on the experimental sections. A number of experiments illustrate the principles; others are envisaged as models of real processes, enabling the determination of important technical data or the study of aspects of industrial process control. The book is designed primarily for people in industry who are confronted with new electrochemical techniques and who wish to build on their basic knowledge, but it will also be of use to students of chemistry and chemical engineering.
