This provides access to 7116 English language articles on Shakespearean literature, taken from academic journals, periodicals and serial publications. Each citation contains author, title of article, name of translator or editor where relevant, title of periodical, volume and issue numbers, date and page numbers. The work contains chapters under four main areas: general studies, studies by period, studies by genre and studies of individual plays. The general studies section contains articles that deal with Shakespeare's time, life and language; general textual, theme and character studies. This is followed by the studies by period section which contains articles which focus, for example, on early vis-a-vis later work. The third section contains articles dealing with Shakespeare's dramatic modes: tragedies, comedies, romances and an histories, whilst the final section contains articles on the 37 plays which are generally accepted to have been written by Shakespeare and three apocryphal plays attributed to him. For easy access to the bibliographical entries there are four indices: author index, scene index, character index, subject index.
