The new approach in seismic design, performance-based design, aims at designing structures to achieve target performance levels under different types of ground excitations. However, this methodology is still not fully implemented yet in building codes. This study examines the seismic performance of reinforced concrete moment resisting frames designed using the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC 2005). The performance of the structures is mainly evaluated using dynamic analysis carried out by two different software tools (IDARC2D and DRAIN-2DX). Thirty two ground motion records of different levels and properties are used in the analysis. The book attempts to answer the following questions: - What are the different performance levels achieved by the designed structures under different levels of seismic hazard? - Do the achieved performance levels meet the target performance levels? - What is the effect of infill panels on the performance of the buildings? - How reliable are these results? - What are the recommendations to improve the results obtained? This book is addressed to professionals and researchers in Civil Engineering, specifically Structural Engineering.

About the Author:

Born in Ottawa, Canada in 1980 and raised inCairo, Egypt, Omar completed his undergraduatedegree in Civil Engineering at Cairo University in2003. He moved to Montreal in 2005 and got hisMaster degree at Concordia University in 2007. Hethen moved back to Cairo to join his fatherand his brother in forming “El KafrawyBuilding Engineering Group“.
