Synthetic metallopolymers are acquiring ample attention due to their potential applications as precursors to functional soft materials. Organometallic polymers combine the best of both organic and inorganic polymers. Polyferrocenes comprise the major portion of organometallic polymers. Therefore, quest for new monomeric precursors to organometallic polymers has expediated. Organometallic polymers containing cyclopentadienyl-cobalt-cyclobutadiene (CpCoCb) have been targeted since the early 1990’s due to their isoelectronic nature (cf. ferrocene). This work explores the synthesis of potentail CpCoCb containing monomers to generate Co(I) incorporating polymers.

About the Author:

Dr. Preeti Chadha is a postdocotral fellow working with Prof. David Emslie (McMaster University), investigating the development of monomers for atomic layer deposition of pure metals such as Mn, Ti and Al. Her Ph.D., under the supervision of Prof. Paul Ragogna (Western University), focused on the synthesis of CpCoCb containing metallopolymers.
