In its revised third edition, special emphasis has been given to the latest trends in wind turbine technology and design, such as gearless drive train concepts, as well as on new fields of application, in particular the offshore utilisation of wind energy.

The author has gained experience over decades designing wind energy converters with a major industrial manufacturer and, more recently, in technical consulting and in the planning of large wind park installations, with special attention to economics.

About the Author

Dipl.-Ing. Erich Hau, Jahrgang 1941, studierte an den Technischen UniversitAten Stuttgart und MA1/4nchen Luft- und Raumfahrttechnik. WAhrend seiner TAtigkeit als Entwicklungs- und Projektingenieur bei a žMAN Neue Technologie" in MA1/4nchen kam er Ende der 70-er Jahre zum ersten Mal mit der Windenergietechnik in BerA1/4hrung. Unter seiner Leitung entstanden in vielen LAndern die ersten groAen Versuchs-Windkraftanlagen. Das deutsche Projekt a žGrowian" und weitere Experimentalanlagen bildeten den Hintergrund fA1/4r seine theoretischen Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Windkraft-Aerodynamik und der Systemauslegung von Windkraftanlagen. FA1/4r zwei Jahre gehArte Hau dem Vorstand des neu gegrA1/4ndeten Instituts fA1/4r Solare Energieversorgungstechnik an der UniversitAt Kassel an. In MA1/4nchen grA1/4ndete er anschlieAend sein IngenieurbA1/4ro ETAPLAN, mit dem er an der Planung von groAen Windparkprojekten im In- und Ausland, aber auch an Projekten im Kraftwerksbereich beteiligt war.
