Synopsis
Das Londoner Architekturbüro Wilkinson Eyre Architects, 1983 gegründet, macht seit den 1990er Jahren durch eine Vielzahl innovativer und phantasievoller Bauten auf sich aufmerksam. Ein Schwerpunkt bilden spektakuläre und konstruktiv anspruchsvolle Brücken, zu deren bekanntesten und preisgekrönten die Gateshead Millennium Bridge (2001) und die Floral Street Bridge (2003) gehören. Das Büro hat eine Vielzahl von Preisen gewonnen, darunter zweimal den RIBA Stirling Prize. Mit der Teilnahme an Wettbewerben für den Guangzhou West Tower in China und die Tensegrity Bridge in Washington DC, USA, stellt das Büro seine zunehmend internationale Präsenz unter Beweis.
Das Buch dokumentiert etwa 15 Bauten und Projekte ausführlich, wobei die Einbindung in den jeweiligen Kontext von besonderer Bedeutung ist. Zu den vorgestellten Projekten gehören u.a. das Magna Centre in Rotherham, UK, das National Waterfront Museum Swansea, UK, den Guangzhou West Tower, China und die Gatwick Airbridge, UK.

About the Authors
Peter Davey is an architect. He was editor in chief of Architectural Review for many years and has written many books on architecture.
Kurt W. Forster is an art historian and teaches at the Yale School of Architecture.
