Auf den ersten Blick scheint er damit nicht recht zu Belloris strengen Auswahlkriterien für dessen Lebensbeschreibungen zu passen. Doch Lanfranco, der wegen seiner zahlreichen Freskenausstattungen weithin Berühmtheit erlangte, gehörte als Schüler Agostinos zur Schule der Carracci, und Bellori war begeistert von Lanfrancos Kuppelausmalung in Sant` Andrea della Valle, mit der dieser einen Prototyp barocker Kuppelfresken geschaffen hatte.In ihrem Essay arbeitet Elisabeth Oy-Marra Lanfrancos enge Beziehungen zu Bellori und seinem Kreis heraus und macht die ambivalente Wertschätzung deutlich, die der Schriftsteller dem erfolgreichen Maler entgegenbringt. Von Bedeutung ist hier der Begriff der Leichtigkeit ('facilità'), mit der Bellori diese positiv zu konnotieren versteht und die er von der reinen Praxis, der 'pratica', abgrenzt.
