Karl V., geboren am 3. 4. 1643 in Wien, gestorben am 18. 4. 1690 in Wels (Oberösterreich), Herzog von Lothringen; Schwager Kaiser Leopolds I. (ab 1678); Großvater von Prinz Karl von Lothringen und Bar. Ab 1663 in kaiserlichen Diensten, bewarb sich 1668/69 erfolglos um den polnischen Thron, wurde 1679 Statthalter von Tirol und den Vorlanden. Als kaiserlicher Feldherr (1675-88) war Karl V. an der Entsatzschlacht am Kahlenberg vom 12. 9. 1683 und bei der Eroberung von Ofen 1686 entscheidend beteiligt, 1687 siegte er bei Mohács.
